Jiang Pengyi

Jiang Pengyi’s works cover both digital and film photography. He is known for challenging the widely accepted definition of photography, in which works he makes use of light to depict the invisible time and record the traces that the object leaves by the means of long exposure or the film’s autonomous photoreception from fluorescent paper, like a resolute adherent to Heidegger and also a master in manipulation of light and time. Jiang’s works are the visual expression of the inherent vigor and time that belong to the objects, which are, their abstract essences. In his series such as “Everything Illuminates”, he deprives the object of its representational attributes including its function and form through utilizing the fluidity of fluorescent matter to present the vitality of daily objects in the darkness, stripping down the appearance to the core.
