AIKE is pleased to present Hu Yun's solo exhibition "distantia" on 5 November 2023. This exhibition marks Hu Yun's third solo show at AIKE, following "Lift with Care" (2013) and "Narration Sickness" (2016). As a belated exhibition, "distantia" brings together fragments of the artist's work in recent years and the works were constantly being reduced, added and re-created. The artist explores the connection between the individual and groups in his own unique way, offering new perspectives and interpretations on the historical fragment.

Hu Yun investigates personal and historical narratives, revisiting historical moments in order to provide alternative readings and reinterpretations. His artistic practice is grounded in research, surveys, travel, oral histories and archives, and he considers himself "a mediator between everyday stories and gossips and state-sanctioned histories." An inclination towards the historiographic and an insistence on the textuality of history define his artistic procedure. His interest in things in history leads him to break down form to its impulses and afterlives, and displacing it across mutations or re-articulations in other guises. These things, therefore, weave in and out, dissipate and congeal in different figurations and temporalities, their forms highly mediated by gestures that refuse to repeat but nevertheless re-enact.
